PROPOSAL-ORIGINAL

PROPOSAL-REVISED

STRUCTURAL:

Problem Statement: The existing structure of the Momentos has met all code, serviceability, and strength requirements. The building also achieved open floor plans with no exposed structural members in the high end condos. The alternative system selected will keep the open floor plan in mind as well as the option for multiple condo purchases. To achieve this I will no longer utilize load bearing walls and will explore larger bay sizes. 5.2 Proposed Solution In Notebook B, it was determined that an 8” two way slab would be an efficient design solution for the Momentos. This system will be analyzed further as the solution to the problem statement. I will explore bay sizes starting with a ~ 20’x20’ typical bay. In addition, the 2nd floor transfer slab will be analyzed for the newly imposed column point loads. Shear drop panels or thickened slabs will most likely be needed to accommodate punching shear and deflections. The existing lateral systems will remain as concrete shear walls seeing how a concrete gravity system will be used. During the analysis of the proposed solution the 2009 IBC and ASCE 7-10 will be referenced.

CONSTRUCTION:

The construction breadth will explore the alternative structural systems impact on construction cost and schedule. Overall, the new alternative system will alter the critical path and material costs which will be analyzed to determine whether the newly proposed system is reasonable. However, I expect the construction time to be longer with the new concrete design seeing how the existing used prefabricated metal walls. Any advantages or disadvantages to the new system will be shown in contrast of the original design.

ACOUSTICS:

The proposed redesign from steel to concrete will result in a floor system with more mass, which could prove to increase the buildings acoustical performance. This breadth will include an investigation into the two designs comparing their acoustical performances and provide solutions to any challenges the may be presented with the new concrete design..
